Veris Candles & the humble significant bee

A little about VERIS:                                                            FAQ's about Veris                                    Friends of Veris

Our new workshop is located in Paso Robles, nestled in the midst of some of the finest wineries in California. It is this beautiful Central Coast environment that provides VERIS with much of the inspiration for our unique product recipes and packaging designs. Utilizing small-batch methods of production and carefully selected botanical ingredients and natural waxes, we are dedicated to offering the finest natural bath and candle products. We enjoy what we do and it is demonstrated in the quality of our products and commitment to our customers.

Founder Lisa Zimmerman-Hansen first acquired a passion for beeswax candles while attending Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. Purchasing her first beeswax candle at the campus bookstore, she quickly discovered the benefits of the clean-burning wax. However, it was the delicious honey-scent of the beeswax that Lisa appreciated the most. The warm light and natural aroma of the candle soothed senses worn by too much coffee, too little sleep, and admittedly, “really bad study habits.” Studying by candle light became her new routine.

Lisa would eventually learn to make her own beeswax candles and discover the benefits of other natural waxes and botanical fragrances as well. Using local Farmers’ Markets as her testing ground, VERIS was borne out of a hobby in 2004. Although we still do a few of our local Farmers Markets, VERIS has grown considerably, and, with the assistance of sales representatives on the West and East Coasts, VERIS products are now sold in over 135 stores, and marketed in specialty catalogues and internet stores. More recently, we have expanded our business to include private-label and event services. From private label candles to special event favors, this segment of our business is truly keeping us busy.

Now is especially an exciting time for VERIS as we will be opening our new workshop to the public in September with a Grand Opening slated for October. Besides a visible pour room where one can watch the craft, we will also have a small gallery where our customers can visit and fulfill all their candle and bath product needs. Please remember to stop by and visit us the next time you go wine tasting!

About VERIS Aromatic Candles:

Each candle has been wicked, scented and poured by hand. Only the finest naturally-filtered beeswax, soy (with added botanical oils), cotton wicking and plant essential oils are used in their manufacture.

Our candles are free of paraffin and other petroleum-derived waxes, metal-cored wicks, synthetic hardeners and adhesion agents.

No chemical dyes or color fixatives are used so the true amber color of natural beeswax is revealed. Our premium ivory beeswax achieves its light color through natural filtration, not chemical bleaching. Color variations in candles made with ivory beeswax and soy will naturally occur with the addition of essential oils.

Essential oils have been specially chosen to complement the natural honey-scent of the beeswax. No artificial fragrances are used (Note: New “Luxe” boxed candle line contains a blend of premium fragrance oils and essential oils) .

Beeswax and soy burn cleaner and longer than the more commonly used petroleum-based waxes.

Beeswax & Soy Candle Burning Tips:

Keep your wicks trimmed! The wick should be trimmed to 1/4” before lighting. Should the flame become too large, extinguish, trim and re-light. If the wick is too long or contaminated it will impede the flow of oxygen and cause your candle to smoke and burn poorly. Do not allow wick debris to collect in the wax pool.

Keep your candles out of drafts. If the flame is flickering then your candle is in a draft and will smoke and/or burn unevenly.

Beeswax is a very slow-burning wax. It is important to allow for sufficient burn time to obtain a good wax pool. To prevent candles from tunneling a small hole down the center, burn candles for at least one hour for each inch of diameter of the container.

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Burn on a heat-resistant surface. Do not move or touch candle while hot or while wax is liquid. Keep out of reach of children.
